what immediately tipped me off to misandry not being what I thought it was was when I realized most people were disproportionately misandrist to black and brown men more than white men, even though the people who were being misandrist were more likely to be AROUND white men 🫩

Accepting your rage as justified can be part of the healing process, but shouldn’t be the destination.

So i don’t know if this is a hot take so correct me if i am. But i was on a date with a girl and the topic of “all men” came up. And a common response to this “oh but you know it’s not you so it shouldn’t affect you”. And i don’t agree with that. It does affect me because even though im not the target demographic it’s still targeting me on an immutable characteristic. I am all for holding men accountable and men must hold other men accountable as well. It shouldn’t be up to women to notice the harm but that being said a blanket generalization of men widens this pseudo-gender war that a lot of right wing influencers play into, and isn’t conducive to the conversation of how we need each other regardless of how you want your relationships dynamic to be (whether traditional, non traditional, or wtv flavor of the week you want it to be). Life is too hectic to fit into these rigid boundaries anyways. Let me know what y’all’s thoughts are (be respectful pls 💀).

I've never understood the idea that misandry isn't structurally harmful, or that it only exists on an interpersonal axis. One of the primary mechanisms of misandry is treating men as disposable labor value, and raising them to be alienated from their emotions and hate to need care in order to facilitate that. So it shouldn't be surprising that men are more likely to be murdered, more likely to die in the workplace and less likely to receive adequate care for workplace injuries, more likely to be addicted to drugs, and more likely to be unhoused. Those are all clear examples of systemic oppression, right? If their workplaces are less regulated, they're the target of more (of some kinds of) violence, and have a harder time accessing certain types of care, then that's patriarchy causing systemic harm to men, isnt it?

The funniest thing about this too is they'll say "the patriarchy exists everywhere" then point at countries that were conquered during colonialism that were formerly joint sovereign and/or matriarchal😭

A lot of people done want to do that work cause it's hard and then you actually have to hold a mirror up to yourself and many many people are so unwilling to do that for any reason.

I agree with all of this except that misandry isn't structurally harmful. And that is BECAUSE it feeds into the patriarchal pipeline. Also, this idea that "misandry hurts your feelings but misogyny kills" that people say is a real tell on how out of touch they are. That misandry and misogyny are a handful of actions you can take; being mean, SA, assault, or murder and that's it. They deny the idea that the American patriarchy was designed to make men into worthless cogs for capitalism and women into worthless gestates for birthing. They deny that men aren't the patriarchy, the ideas, laws, and social structures are the patriarchy. They deny that misandry is the patriarchy. That your mother, just as much as your father pushed patriarchy onto their child, male or female. It's very important to see the effects of patriarchy on all sides to dismantle it. Frankly, to see otherwise, to deny all other truths not aligned to your malice, is not feminism. It IS patriarchy. You, the misandrist, are not a feminist. You are the problem.

literally cannot be a misandrist and a feminist at the same time. they are mutually exclusive concepts. the definition of feminism states equality for all genders three times before it even mentions improving things for women once.

There are so many people that call themselves leftists but they never actually understand why things they advocate against are bad, so they end up with ideas that sound progressive but are ultimately conservative

I've always referred to this as just applying the Sociological Imagination (WEB Dubois iirc?). If we see a homeless person, we see the systems that failed them rather than some personal moral failing of a lazy bum. Yet, for whatever reason, when bad men are pointed at, the narrative becomes the oversimplified "men are awful" (personal moral failing!) rather than looking at the systems that led to awful men. Racists often do the same thing with crime data say black people are inherently bad, rather than looking at systemic failures.

IMO misandrist women just internalized the patriarchal hierarchy and put themselves on top. not understanding that they are upholding the exact same system.

my thing is literally every time i try to talk about this people try to tell me it's two sides of the same coin of misogyny and it's like yeah no fucking shit 😭😭😭 nobody is calling it misandry because it doesn't run from misogyny it's actually called misandry because it runs from misogyny, because the entire fucking point of feminism is that men and women have different experiences underneath the patriarchy. nobody is saying they exist for different reasons. everyone is saying they are inherently different things because men and women are conditioned completely differently. That's The Whole Point
