@intels5: University of Leeds researchers found that each additional 25 grams of processed meat eaten daily was associated with a 44% higher relative risk of dementia. The analysis used data from nearly 500,000 UK adults aged 40 to 69, tracking diagnoses over an average of eight years. Researchers recorded 2,896 dementia cases, and the association appeared in people with and without a genetic predisposition to the condition. Because this was an observational study, it identifies a dietary link rather than proving that processed meat caused dementia. The researchers said further confirmation was needed.
