There are many "tells" that you are talking with a scammer. They tell you right away that they are "A God fearing man" to get you to trust them. That's not a phrase frequently used in the United States. In the United States a person would say "I'm a Christian" or "I'm Catholic" to explain their religious affiliation. "God-fearing" is a phrase frequently used in Africa. The reason that they tell you this in the first place is to lull you into a false sense of security, thinking that you are talking with somebody who has high morals, therefore would never try to cheat or scam you. They introduced themselves by saying "I am (insert name here) by name." For example, "I am John Connor, by name." Because that's how they introduce themselves in many areas of Africa. Nowhere in the United States do we introduce ourselves like that. One of the first things they ask you is if you are married with children. This is to quickly decide whether or not you're going to be somebody that they can scam. After all, time is money. They tell you their wife died and they are left with a young son or daughter. This is to play on your sympathy. You ask where the kid is and are told he/she is being cared for by the scammers mother or sister, or in a boarding or military school. (Keep in mind that US boarding and military schools do not have children under 11 living there, so this is a quick way to tell they are lying.) This is one of the easiest ways to tell that they are not from the US or other Western nation, like the UK or Australia for example. In Africa or the Middle East when a man's wife dies, they just hand their kids off to somebody else to take care of. In a Western nation, if your young child's mother died, you would be doing everything you could to support your child and take care of them. You wouldn't send a 5-year-old who had just lost their mother off to go live at a boarding school, or with some distant relative where you only see them once a year, thus making them lose both parents.#OnlineSafety #ScamAwareness #StayAlert #FraudPrevention #protectyourself
