You don't need a college degree or years of experience to get your first offshore job. 🌊💰 In fact, there are several roles that can give you a way into the offshore industry — and some experienced workers in these careers can eventually earn well into six figures. Let's start with roustabout. This is one of the classic entry points into offshore work. You could be helping with equipment, cargo, cleaning, painting, maintenance support, and general deck operations. A lot of the skills are learned through training and experience on the job. Next is roughneck. You're working around the drilling floor, helping with pipe handling and drilling operations. It's physically demanding, but it can also give you a pathway to progress into more specialized and higher-paying positions. Then you've got catering and accommodation roles. Think cooks, galley hands, cleaners, and housekeeping staff responsible for keeping hundreds of offshore workers fed and comfortable. These roles don't necessarily require a college degree, although specific experience, medical clearance, safety training, and employer requirements can still apply. You can also find opportunities in areas like deck operations, crane work, and helideck support — but these positions often require specific training, licenses, or previous experience. And here's another reason offshore work attracts people: While you're onboard, accommodation and meals are commonly provided, and transportation arrangements may be covered depending on the employer and contract. So your living expenses while you're offshore can be much lower than they would be working a traditional job onshore. The work can mean 12-hour shifts and long periods away from home, but depending on your rotation, you may then get significant time off between hitches. And here's the important part: Not every offshore job is entry level, and $200K is NOT a standard starting salary. Your earning potential depends on the role, qualifications, experience, employer, location, overtime, and contract. But if you're willing to learn, get the right certifications, and start at the bottom, the door into offshore work is genuinely there. Would you start your offshore career with one of these jobs? Comment “OFFSHORE”, follow this page, like the video, and check the link in our bio for the complete step-by-step guide to getting started and getting onboard.
