The sad thing is when they're NOT. Like I seriously know people with masters degrees in a blue state that are still MAGA. Not many statistically, but they're still out there and it's honestly INSANE. I wonder what they actually learned all those years.

My high school friend was staunchly republican growing up, even though he was a decent person, because he was raised to believe in their rhetoric. He went through college, grad school, became a history professor. He’s a leftist now 🤷🏼♂️

I understand your point, but you do have to understand that the academy works in such a way that the people in the field determine what is considered good work within the field, which means that historians being predominantly, left-leaning, which is not necessarily true, would indicate either what you said, or possibly that there’s a leftist gatekeeping. This is one of the reasons why you see conservative institutions move left, but left leaning institutions staying left, because conservatism is open to the exploration of ideas, and leftism is not
