The scene wasn’t a confirmation that Lestat hurt, terrorized or caused Paul’s death. In that vision, Paul represents an outsider who steps into Lestat’s dream state to bring him comfort and validation. By thanking Lestat for loving Louis, Paul gives Lestat a reason to stop hating himself and to choose to survive. Sam Reid said something similar and so did Rolins when asked why it was important to have Paul show up there.

louis was with him for 20+ years while thinking he had somthing to do with Paul's death. louis was hallucinating him and baiting lestat to chase after him again while he thought he killed claudia😭 and people think i'm crazy if i said louis loves lestat as much as lestat loves him if not more.

The way I see it, the room wasn’t just filled with people that he killed or hurt, it was people that he impacted. I think Paul was the only positive person who was impacted by Lestat, because of his love for Louis.
