@cbsnews: Bally Bagayoko, the mayor of Saint-Denis, a suburb north of Paris, stood between riot police and teenagers protesting conditions in France’s poorest district. Saint-Denis is at the center of the high school protest movement, which began there nearly three weeks ago as students demanded better school conditions. Bagayoko told CBS News' @Aidan Stretch that he stepped in to support the students and prevent anyone from being injured. The protests have since spread across France, with frequent episodes of violence as protesters clash with police, thrown projectiles and set fires.
