We need to investigate why the foundations of human life are becoming increasingly difficult to afford.
We all need to ask why inflation and the rising costs of living are putting so much pressure on people, while basic necessities such as housing, transportation, nutritious food, and healthcare are becoming increasingly out of reach.
These are not simply luxuries. They are essential foundations for living, working, maintaining our health, and building an independent life.
For those of you who play video games, think about this: many survival and life simulation games give your character a starting base, a place to return to, and a foundation from which to explore the world. Yet, in our actual human reality, people can work hard and still struggle to afford a home, reliable transportation, or the medical care they need.
Why can we create entire virtual worlds while so many people still struggle to secure the basic foundations of their real lives?
Humanity has developed incredible technology to create virtual characters, complex digital environments, artificial intelligence, and entire economies within games. These creations have value and can bring entertainment, creativity, connection, and economic opportunities. But we should also investigate whether our ability to create new products and experiences is advancing faster than our ability to make essential human necessities accessible.
I’m not saying we should stop creating virtual products. I’m asking how we can use our accumulated knowledge, technological progress, economic resources, and human creativity to improve the reality we all live in.
