@moneymeetsmedicine: 2 doctors in their final year of training 🩺 The last 12 months of training is when some of the most expensive money decisions of your career get made, usually in between shifts: the contract, the loans, and the disability insurance. The one with a hard deadline is the GSI. A Guaranteed Standard Issue policy is own-occupation disability insurance that doesn’t look into your medical history. It is guaranteed so long as you haven’t been previously disabled or denied, and you are still in training. I learned that the hard way. In training, an agent had me apply the traditional way despite my medical history and never mentioned the GSI. I was denied, and I am still uninsurable today.
