gentoo compiling is easy (if you have a good CPU) but my top 3 distros would be Artix or Arch, Debian, i would say debian but you don’t want that so maybe try CachyOS if yu play games more or something or depending on your hardware try SteamOS

Try out NetBSD if you have any super old computers. It’s not Linux but it’s super nice on them, and for some platforms it’s one of the only modern OSes that are out there for them (I also have the option for Gentoo on this PPC PowerBook which is nice) just have to learn PKGSRC and you’ll have a nice time
