@latinaworldtraveler1: The camp in Puerta del Sol began on September 26 as a protest over Spain’s housing crisis. There are now more than 1,300 tents, and the protesters are using the tents to physically demonstrate what housing insecurity looks like: people are being pushed out of homes, so they are putting “homes” in the middle of Madrid’s most famous square. It became especially significant after Maricarmen Abascal, 87, was evicted from the Madrid apartment where she had lived for about seven decades. She died on October 7 after being hospitalized following the eviction. Her case has become a symbol of the housing crisis and the protesters’ demands for greater protection against evictions and more affordable housing. #solotravel #madrid #worldtravel #travel #spain
