This just happened. A company hired 7 candidates based on what was on their resume. They started on Monday. By Friday, all 7 were let go. Why? Their skills did not match what was on their resume. They over-embellished their background using AI- they couldn’t do the job. Intern candidates lasted five days on the job. The company then had to bring in a recruiting firm to properly vet candidates. This is real… There are recruiters online telling candidates to lie / use AI to embellish their resume. This is exactly why candidates are getting exposed. AI-written resumes are already starting to get flagged by companies If your skills do not match your resume, it will show quickly. Do not use AI like this: 1. Do not use AI to mirror and match a job description onto your resume just to get your resume seen. 2. If you did not do it, do not put it on your resume. It’s one thing to change a keyword, it’s another to fully change your bullet points. How candidates can actually use AI the right way: 1.Run a search in AI to identify top hiring industries within your geography. 2. Use AI to identify decision-makers by title within those industries in your geography. 3. Use AI on a specific company you want to target to identify decision-makers by name & title within that organization. 4. Use AI to summarize your ROI and pull out how you help an organization grow and generate revenue. Example: Drop your resume into an AI platform ask to summarize and pull out your ROI to the organization you are applying to. Step further- take that summary and email it directly to the hiring manager. 5. Use AI to identify different industries your current background can translate into. 6. Be prepared to explain how you use AI in your actual job. A question hiring managers are now asking: “How do you use AI in your current role to make impact in your organization?” Example: A contracts administrator or paralegal, can say: “I’d use AI to speed up contract review and approvals, reduce risk in agreements, and shorten deal cycles, ultimately helping the business close revenue faster while protecting margins.” Bottom line, AI is a tool. Use it to source, research, and clarify your value in your career search and on your resume. Do not use it to create experience you do not have. Save this.
