The answer has always been to put them in former parking spaces, which is what Paris and Barcelona did in areas without alleys decades ago. This is a solved problem. It just costs parking.

There are thousands of alleyways in NYC, specially in Washington heights, Harlem and Inwood. But they are usually locked for secuirty.

in Sweden we solved it even better every building has a trash room where the big bins are kept. residents go and throw it there and the trash people just roll the bin out to the truck

surely if they put the bins where they put the trash bags it would take up the same amount of space. Also underground bins exist, common in many European cities, they take up the space of a small bin but have the capacity of a much bigger bin

IMHO they should make some of the streets bike/ pedestrian only so that less room is taken up by parking. And then only the trash / emergency vehicles are allowed on them

There have been the same percentage drop in rat sightings even in neighborhoods that dont have bins so its not the bins these numbers are being attributed to the bins purely to fast track the program and suppress public outrage over all the very valuable lost free parking space
