Also if I remember correctly, Hebrews ate the lamb they sacrificed to God. I think it makes that we eat our lamb as well

I think the problem is that you’re isolating John 6:53 from the entire conversation Jesus was having and insisting He’s speaking literally without considering how He had already explained His meaning. Go back to John 6:26. Jesus tells the crowd they’re following Him because He fed them physical bread. Then in verse 27, He redirects their attention away from physical food to the food that endures to eternal life. Naturally, they ask what they must do to receive it. And what does Jesus say in verse 29? “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” Then in John 6:35, Jesus says, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.” Pay attention to that. Jesus is already explaining His illustration! Coming to Him satisfies hunger, believing in Him satisfies thirst. In John 6:40 and 47, He again explains that those who believe in Him have eternal life. Now compare that to John 6:54, where He says whoever eats His flesh and drinks His blood has eternal life. It’s the same promise! He’s already established that eternal life comes through believing in Him. And before you say, “But Jesus never corrected the crowd or explained that He wasn’t speaking literally,” that’s exactly why we need to read the entire chapter. He had already explained the spiritual reality behind His language before He introduced the more shocking imagery of eating His flesh and drinking His blood. You’re expecting Him to repeat an explanation He’s already given. We see this pattern throughout John’s Gospel. In John 3, Nicodemus misunderstands being born again as a physical birth. In John 4, the Samaritan woman misunderstands living water as physical water. And now in John 6, the crowd is again struggling to understand spiritual truth expressed through physical imagery. And yes, Jesus repeats and intensifies His language rather than giving the crowd a simple clarification. But repeating an illustration doesn’t automatically make it literal, especially when the surrounding context has already established its spiritual significance. Jesus absolutely was speaking about something literal…

Genuine question: when you say you take the first verse about the Lord’s Supper literally, but interpret the second verse about God being a door as a metaphor, even though it says “truly, truly, I say,” what is the difference between the two verses that makes you interpret one literally and the other metaphorically?

One could say that I eat His flesh or ingest the flesh of Christ when I read my Bible. Jesus is the Word of God. I'm taking it into my spirit, & soul to gain "nourishment."

Explain the fact that nobody literally ate him? Because you said he was being literal, so did anyone literally eat Jesus?

I’m so confused… how you think this proves a literal interpretation of John 6:53 when you’ve actually demonstrated why that argument doesn’t work. “Truly, truly” comes from the Greek “amen, amen.” It emphasizes the truth, importance, and authority of what Jesus is saying. It does NOT establish whether the language that follows is literal or figurative. Those are two entirely different things. You actually proved this yourself with John 10:7. Jesus says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.” You correctly acknowledged that Jesus isn’t a literal door. So you’ve already established that Jesus can use “truly, truly” to emphasize an absolutely true statement expressed through figurative language. And there’s an even better example in John 3:3. Jesus says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus interprets that physically, asking how someone can enter his mother’s womb a second time. But Jesus is speaking about spiritual birth! Was His statement any less true because the language wasn’t meant to be understood physically? Of course not!

Some say “The Eucharist is symbolic. How can he give us his flesh to eat?” the irony of that statement.

SHEEP AND GOATS . Man does not live on bread alone but every word coming from the mouth of God. . And the word of God was spoken to jesus when it became flesh, and jesus said the word he preached was not his own word, but was the word his father spoke to him and commanded him to preach. . And the word of the father shared with the son is the whine, and his body is the history of the children of Isreal, Because the word with God who has no other God beside him, was God speaking to Jesus

Agree, I am Catholic. Scientist during the last century and several times this century have tested the blessed Eucharist trying to debunk that the Eucharist is Jesus’ body. The scientist proved that it is Christ’s AB positive blood and tissue from the heart. DNA that matches Jesus’ is what the Eucharist turns into after being blessed. Google or research the scientist that ended up proving this.
