Paraguayan here! Just a few added details: Asuncion was pretty relevant before the Bourbon reforms. It is called "Mother of cities" for its rol in the colonization. The losses in the "Guerra Guasu" (Great War) in our population was around half of pre-war levels and around 90% of the male population was killed. Curupayty and Campo Via are interesting battles to read about, as well as the Yrendague battle.
