@pbsnews: In Arizona, a congressional candidate says she was raped while trying to repair campaign signs this summer. Democrat Bernadette Greene Placentia told The Phoenix New Times that she was hit in the head in a parking lot in August and later awoke to find a man on top of her. The trucker and small business owner said she reported the incident to the police two weeks later. In a statement provided to the PBS News Hour, her campaign says Greene Placentia "hopes that by speaking about her experience, others will know they are not alone." #news #pbsnews #arizona #houserace #candidate #congress #midterms #election

So many. 😔 Women have been raped since the beginning of time. 🚨 In the United States, a woman is sexually assaulted every 68 seconds, meaning more than 1,270 women are sexually assaulted every day. 🚨 Globally, the World Health Organization estimates that an average of 140 women and girls are killed every day worldwide by intimate partners or family members. ⚖️Harsher sentencing laws, longer prison terms and mandatory castration would put an end to this practice which has existed for thousands of years. 📈 One in eight girls and women alive today—totaling over 370 million worldwide—have experienced rape or sexual assault before turning 18. If non-contact forms of abuse (such as online exploitation or verbal abuse) are included, that figure rises to one in five females (650 million). 🚨⚖️👩🏻‍⚖️TIME FOR CONGRESS TO ENACT HARSHER LAWS AND PENALTIES THAT PROTECT GIRLS AND WOMEN. So why don’t they? Because perpetrators of sexual assault, harassment and rape, are in Congress!
