I saw a mixed teenager on here say "it's dehumanizing" and that's been the best way I've heard it described

so pretty much i’m not black enough for the black groups but im not white enough for the white groups so my whole life i’ve been stuck in the middle. following that i’m from the south so if all my friends are white then im white washed and if i hang out all black people then i am ghetto and trying to be “blacker” then i am. again following that hairstyles are weird, get looked at weird for braids especially because im yellow skinned 😭, straight hair and i can fully pass as white. its difficult man

It's fine. I've never had an issue fitting in, but I'm black first, biracial second. Maybe it's because I have a black mom, but I don't relate to the identity crisis mixed ppl.

Both sides are expert invalidators. I have friends that say “you’re black to me” and then I have a mental crisis bc hello my mom is white im not gonna act like she doesn’t exist? And I’ve had white folks say I’m pretty for a mulatto or say racist things around me not realizing I’m biracial. Someone today told me “you just look white” which okay but I’m a spitting image of my black father with the curls in the shade of my mother. It’s isolating more often than folks of one race would care to admit.

I don’t have an identity crisis 😂 my momma white and my daddy black. Do i have people try invalidate my blackness? Of course but ONLY online. I love being black and I love being white. It brings me great experiences to hold conversations. I think this entire conversation is weird and it’s very red pill coded.

To this day I still dont feel accepted by either race. To black people im "white-washed" no matter what I do. Yet, to white people, Im still too black to be considered beyond their own stereotypes. Its sad watching both your races and cultures reject you for something out of your control.

It sucks especially if your a biracial individual such as myself who can easily be mistaken for being white. I experienced shit from both sides and honestly I believe the best thing for you guys and your secondary family circle to support the babies and make them proud of who they are and where they come from(both sides) and explain to them that unfortunately the world has bad people of every ethnic background and community but don’t let them ruin it for everyone because we are meant to be different. My goal is to raise my kids up in confidence so know one can tell them differently. I make sure to tell them every day they are beautiful, their curls are beautiful so they know and that’s their inner voice not someone else’s insecurities, biases, or racists ass roots🥰

people not liking us bc they don’t like race mixing then generalizing all of us as colorists who think we think everyone is jealous of us when we say ppl don’t like mixed ppl.

It feels like mainly our black side feels the need to police on our identity’s or if we should even exist or not, if there are too many of us and honestly it’s just dehumanizing

It’s dehumanizing. Especially with a white mom. But she’s the one who taught me to love that fact that I’m black. She taught me that I’m black first. She taught me to love my curls and to try and keep them safe. She called me beautiful for most of my life… I’m so sad at this conversation honestly

not black enough for black people, not white enough for white people. constantly being reminded of your "whiteness"...having a white mom makes it worse. then we give "white mom vibes". it's cold in these streets. 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️

i definitely didn’t feel left out as a kid, i grew up only around black people and they never had anything to say about my mixed identity so i felt very accepted. it’s the internet conversations that make me feel a type of way, though, and make me second guess how accepted i feel

So based off the comments this is universal struggle with race, and the full full one's are the gatekeepers of struggle? 👀

As a mixed woman, the fetishization really sucks. It’s hard to know when someone wants me for me or because I fit an archetype they’re into. Plus I grew up in a white suburb so I always felt out of place. When I did get to know other black kids, most of them didn’t like that I acted “white-washed” because a lot of their norms weren’t norms in my household where I was raised by my white side of the family. Many white people have said racist things around me expecting me to join in because I am “half-white” and are astonished when I call them out because I don’t play about that regardless of what my genetic make-up is. It’s feeling lost on how to take care of myself because a lot of tutorials growing up for hair was either straight, wavy, or coily which did not fit my hair type (3b). My black friends making fun of me for putting on sunscreen, my white friends comparing their skin-tone to mine in the summer. The biggest thing is always feeling out of place with both races and wishing there was a community of mixed people to be around to feel understood. There’s so much more I could put and while I’ve accepted that being mixed is who I am, I still have moments where I wish I could be one or the other so that I didn’t have this in-between struggle.

i grew up in a small town. white parent raised me as mixed. went out into the world, was seen as black. had identity crisis in how and why i was treat differently than back home. had to deconstruct that in early twenties. all good now. wish black parent and family were more proactive in that department. radicalized me in the best way tho

For me it’s really hard partly because so many black people hate me for the privilege I do have, because colorism is a thing, but they assume we don’t experience any racism at all. Being mono racial in this society gives you a community of people you can relate to and who will always have your back. Being biracial, especially growing up in the 90s or early 2000s, is difficult because interracial relationships still weren’t very common, so you’re outcasted by both sides of your race and you don’t have a community. It just kind of sucks because no one realizes the racism and prejudice we face from both sides
