Joe Manganiello is sharing painful new claims about the health battle that he says changed his marriage to Sofía Vergara. In his upcoming memoir, “Bloodlines,” the 49-year-old actor says he became seriously ill shortly after marrying Vergara in 2015. He describes severe abdominal pain, rashes, headaches, fatigue and Bl*eding that left him struggling to walk. Over the next seven years, Manganiello says he lost 60 pounds, underwent several medical procedures and needed emergency surgery to remove part of his intestine. But he says the physical pain was only part of the struggle. Manganiello claims Vergara ridiculed his small dog, Bubbles, whom he adopted in 2019 during one of the darkest periods of his life. He also claims she refused to hug him, even when he begged while he was seriously ill. The actor also disputes Vergara’s earlier explanation for their divorce—that they separated because she did not want to have children later in life. Manganiello says his own health problems changed his thinking about having a child. After failed IVF attempts and discussions about egg donors, he says he feared leaving his wife with a child who was not biologically hers. He says he wrote the memoir because “there were things said and printed about me that were false.” Manganiello is now symptom-free and says his health has improved after additional treatment and surgery.
