@marlynbaezmandel: In an era dominated by digital production and fleeting musical trends, one performer built his career around something wonderfully old-fashioned: extraordinary musicianship, irresistible rhythm, and the ability to command a stage. Bruno Mars, born Peter Gene Hernandez in Honolulu, Hawaii, grew up surrounded by music. His father was a percussionist of Puerto Rican and Jewish ancestry, while his mother was a Filipina singer and dancer. As a child, Bruno performed with his family’s musical revue, becoming known for his remarkably convincing Elvis Presley impersonations. Those early performances helped shape the entertainer he would become. After moving to Los Angeles, Mars initially struggled to establish himself as a solo artist. He found success as a songwriter and producer before becoming an international sensation with songs such as Just the Way You Are, Grenade, and Locked Out of Heaven. His musical influences range from Michael Jackson and Prince to James Brown, Elvis Presley, and classic Motown. With Uptown Funk, his collaboration with Mark Ronson, Mars helped bring vintage funk sounds to a new generation. Later, his work with Anderson .Paak as Silk Sonic celebrated the elegance and soul of 1970s R&B. His achievements include numerous Grammy Awards, sold-out tours, and one of the most recognizable voices in contemporary pop music. Yet what truly distinguishes Bruno Mars is his ability to make modern music feel timeless. Born on October 8, 1985, Bruno Mars celebrates his 41st birthday today.
