@intels5: An analysis of the Monitoring the Future survey found that fewer U.S. students selected “other” when asked their sex between 2022 and 2024. The decline appeared across eighth, tenth and twelfth grades, with the share among eighth graders falling by roughly half. Psychologist Jean Twenge interpreted the response as a proxy for nonbinary or genderqueer identification. The nationally representative surveys included roughly 5,000 to 15,000 students per grade each year, but offered no direct question about those identities. The findings therefore describe changes in how students answered that particular survey question. Source: Generation Tech, Jean Twenge.
