@zerowastestore: Leave the leaves this fall 🍂 Leaves provide shelter and overwintering grounds for beneficial insects like fireflies, salamanders, and queen bumble bees. They are also great for soil quality; they can suppress weeds, retain moisture, and boost nutrition. Slide 2 via @karikaturalv / @ourplanet_eu #sustainableliving #landscaping #gardening
One year we didn’t rake the leaves. We decided to try the compost thing. The leaves went all over the neighbors lawn who rightfully got annoyed and during the winter shoveling was a pain in the ass because they were buried under the snow and froze. Those leaves never discomposed and now I rake every year.

I've never understood raking. Like, why are we removing nature from nature? Leaves fall, wind blows, the leaves will do what leaves do and degrade. been this way for CENTURIES.

The first tweet just isn’t true. I have leaves from 4 years ago sitting on the ground in my back garden.

Leaves absolutely will not decompose by spring. They will decompose, but not in 4 months.

people will feel better about bio degradable bags but then put them in the landfill where they don't break down. I wish environmental and recycling education were more comprehensive for everyone.

I feel like most people are crazy. my leaves fall.. they stay over winter and in spring, grass and wildflowers grow up in between them and they naturally dissappear under the new growth until the cycle repeat itself, as nature intended. people complaining about leaves in their yard are the same ones that spray glysophate all over everything except grass in the summer and their soil is void of life that facilitates the process. ugh.

We don’t rake. Ever. The leaves help shield critters getting ready for winter, and through the winter.

the leaves near me take forever to decompose, if i don’t leafblow them out of the corners and rake some of them, they stay an entire season past winter sometimes

Anyone who thinks all of their leaves decomposed by spring just didn’t realize that the wind blew them into the neighbor’s yard

I leave them in flower beds that need insulation for winter. other than that we mulch them with the mower or they kill the grass

When I moved into my house there was a deep layer of leaves, wet and dense on the bottom and so no grass was growing. If I don’t rake them then I’ll never have grass. If I could leave them alone I would

I live in a forest. The leaves are everywhere and collect moisture which leads to mold. I’m allergic to mold. So no thanks. I’ll rake the leaves and dispose of them to save me from sneezing a million times a day.

TBF they can kill grass if it’s wet and heavy or if you have a retention pit like my house growing up was saddled with
