@sherrilowharris: A friend recommended Chainsaw, a Venezuelan café in Melrose Hill, and—based on the fact that she visits nearly four times a week—I knew I had to try it. She suggested the Nina Fresa, a fresh strawberry matcha, and it immediately impressed me. The freshly macerated strawberries settled at the bottom of the cup, creating a bright, fruity flavor that felt worlds away from the artificial syrups many cafés use. I also had my very first arepa: the Carne Mechada, filled with shredded beef, black beans, white cheese, and guasacaca. The exterior was incredibly flavorful and crispy, with deliciously crunchy edges. Do yourself a favor and eat it with your hands—no fork. Holding it, biting into it, and experiencing all those textures is part of the fun. It was divine. Then came the passionfruit lime icebox pie, which was the dessert I had been waiting for. It arrived frozen, so I let it thaw for a little while, although I enjoyed it both ways. Once it became soft and creamy, the balance of sweet and tart flavors was fantastic. I left wishing I had tried the Venezuelan flan latte, which I later learned is especially popular. There are clearly so many more things I want to explore on the menu. Chainsaw can get crowded on Sundays, but we managed to find seats right in front. Between the lively atmosphere, vibrant colors, and genuinely warm hospitality, I briefly forgot I was in LA. My taste buds haven’t been this excited in a while, and I walked out already planning my next visit—and wondering how soon would be too soon to come back for another arepa! #losangeles #arepas #food #Foodie #foodreview
