Crazy, your observation about the tell tale signs of any movie, from period to contemporary, having signs that always give off its age, is exactly what Robin Williams said in my dream I posted months ago when I dreamed he warned me to not let people use his, or anyone’s image, to spread propaganda with AI. I posted it, barely anyone saw it, but that was the first time I had this thought too, and seeing your video instantly brought me back to it!

She was fantastic in North by Northwest. The chemistry she had with Jimmy Stewart was electric.

While he is not an actress Dick Van Dyke is still alive and getting ready to turn 101 this December. I was a huge Mary Poppins fan as a kid so I was pretty happy to find out he was still around.

Random fun fact: My step dad was an extra in the parade scene in Hello Dolly! One of hundreds of course. 🥰

IMO it has a lot to do with actors just being actors nowadays. Back then they could act, sing, dance and a myriad of other talents they brought to the production. Now the joke is, tell them you can do the thing and then learn it after you get the part.

I think it’s also acting styles which change over time.

Love the hair today! Reminds me of Lucille Ball🤩 I’d love if you did a recommendation series. I grew up watching old movies and have my favorite actors, actresses and films but I’m always looking for new gems and love your insight into all the BTS of what was going on in Hollywood, costume design and production!

Golden age or not, Hello Dolly is the greatest movie ever made. It wasn’t Singin’ in the Rain that survived into the future giving that tiny little robot hope as he repaired an entire planet was it? Hm?

🥰 Funny Girl and Hello Dolly were great, but to me Barbara's greatest role and best movie was the nod to 1930's & 1940's screwball comedies, "Whats Up Doc".

I rewatched Hello Dolly on TV a number of years ago, then a few days later saw Bette Midler perform the role on Broadway and I thought it paled in comparison. I loved the movie version.

while babs performace as dolly was incredible, she was not right for the role. The character is supposed to be an older woman looking for a second lease on life... she was too young!
