so, incorrect about stiffness not being muscle tightness. within and around your muscle is fascia, and this absolutely plays a huge role in how much glide, and movement availability you do or do not have. remember fascia is the environment to which all systems live inside of. This is why sequene matters. you can't just stretch or out move, strength train, or nervous system regulate to escape the tension/patterns your fascia holds. this needs to be addressed b4 those other things can fully become optimal. Think of it this way, a rock with a taught rope. cont to move the rock and eventually that fraying leads to an injury. want the full breakdown, Google, underneath the Ache

Counterpoint, consistently doing stretches for my legs is the ONLY thing that helped my back pain, and I am far from the only person I know who has had the exact same experience.

I always thought I had “tight” hamstrings. Oddly my PT had me do Romanian deadlifts. It was rough at first but now I’m totally flexible and can almost touch my toes.

My old soccer coach was one of the leading physios in my country and worked with top top athletes. He always told us that stretching was of no importance to us. We only did specific strength exercises each training session like Nordic hamstrings etc. I was never injured at all while he was my coach

Okay but then what about Yoga? Isn't that all just a bunch of stretching? And it has tons of health benefits from what I've heard.

The brain interprets tension from over stretched muscles the same as muscles in continued contraction. Bringing the endpoints of a muscle closer together can sometimes do more for the tension sensation and stretching increases the discomfort after the golgi tendon organs and spindle cells adapt to the change in muscle length.

I haven't stretched before a run in a LONG time... I'm talking maybe a couple of years at least... my neighbor threw his back out and hurt his previously dislocated shoulder stretching before a run the other day... I'm not saying that's why I don't stretch but I haven't experienced a bad side effect from not stretching

I thought stretching vastly reduces your risk of injury, especially in sports or exercises with high impacts/sudden changes of direction

stretching just gives me pulling and electricity sensation in my leg and feet lol. Strengthening excercises does that too tbh. Does anyone have suggestions for me lol

What about when you have certain muscles that like cramping more than others even when hydrated

I see this and hope. My whole life i have gotten useless advice. Dry needling in my back has reduced cramping. I use my hips and low back really hard consistently and get extremely tight. Hard to walk my hip flexor are so tight etc, but when I do yhe stretching a physical therapist recommends I spasm in a couple minutes and it is horrible. They then tell me how weird that is and follow up by recommending more stretching. Very frustrating. I probably wouldn't care so much, but my son also gets extremely tight from sports and I wish I knew how to better help him.

Walking and movement is what causes my trap pain and tightness. I'm not sure what it is, but I don't have it with my daily routine. The more movement I add the more it hurts, especially walking. And it can get quite extreme. But I could sit at a desk for 8 hours everyday with 0 trap pain.
