Bri Elibero :
verbal directions: student may be dyslexic.
bathroom breaks: severe GI issues, menstrual issues, etc.
leaving class early: sensory processing disorder, autism, physical disability/injury (ie wheelchair, crutches)
use of headphones: adhd, autism. fuck I wish I could've used those, my adhd made it really hard to concentrate
loud breathing: sensory processing, autism, adhd, also loud breathing is just super fucking annoying to listen to
study guide: adhd, learning disorders. in school I would highlight almost everything bc my brain couldn't tell what was important. it's an executive function thing. it's one of the worst parts of adhd actually.
so as you can see, most of these aren't as crazy as you think. they have logic behind them. and the disabilities they accommodate are more common than you think. did I get through school without them? yes. my GPA was like 3.7 or something. but it was so much harder than it could've been. I had to work 3 times as hard as normal kids. spend at least twice as long on my homework. and when I got to college? I didnt have any tools from accommodations in high school. so I struggled so much more. failed classes. got really bad grades. I could've thrived, but I wasn't set up for success. THIS WILL HELP SET THESE KIDS UP FOR SUCCESS
