i remember reading the book ! (theater text) the protagonists are twins, and their mom died. they're more bothered by the papers to fill than sad about her death because early in their childhood, she just shut down and hadn't said a word until her death. their mom doesn't have much money to give them, but she does send them in a manhunt each, which will explain everything, she promises. so, a but forced, they go. one must look for their father, the other must look for their brother. in their research, they learn her backstory. she grew up in a middle eastern village and got banished for falling pregnant from her first love. she had to give up the child. years later, she got put in a camp (it's been a while, I don't remember the details, but she was trying to move to France) and she (among many women) got raped by a guard, and became pregnant with the twins. that guard, and that was the reveal, was her long lost child, the twins' brother and father
