@downinnadesert: One of Arizona's most famous Sonoran hot dog spots is up for sale. Tucson's El Güero Canelo is on the market after more than 30 years. Owner Daniel Contreras started the business as a food cart in 1993 and built it into a Tucson staple known for Sonoran hot dogs, burros, caramelos and churros. The name comes from his nickname, which translates to "the Cinnamon Blonde." The listing covers all three Tucson restaurants, the original on South 12th Avenue, plus the North Oracle Road location opened in 2005 and the East 22nd Street location opened in 2011. An office building next to the Oracle Road restaurant is included. The listing frames the sale as an investment opportunity and does not list a price, and Contreras says the asking price will stay confidential between him and potential buyers. The restaurant received a James Beard Foundation America's Classics Award in 2018, and it has drawn national and international attention over the years. Contreras says it is time to retire and pass his "blessings" on to a new owner. He says he is not selling because the business is struggling, and that he sees the sale as a way of giving back to the community that supported him for more than 30 years. The original South 12th Avenue location was remodeled last year. Some longtime customers say the news caught them off guard, and they hope any new owner keeps the restaurant's traditions going. Personally it was a okay but once they upcharged and the carne asada became really finely diced with more fat than meat I didn’t go much anymore.

You can drive up the street and get the same hotdog at a food truck for cheaper.

Realistically, not a lot of Mexicans would go there because of the crazy prices. The majority of people you see go are going for a new Mexican experience to try the food for the first time. I used to go a lot, but can’t really justify now. BKs ftw
