@funbirdllc: A path traversal with no ../ in it. CVE-2026-21589, Atlassian Data Center, CVSS 9.3. Unauthenticated file read. It uses :: as the path separator, so every traversal signature you own misses it — they were all written for ../ and its encodings. Needs an exact path, no enumeration. Sounds limiting. It isn't: in Jira with Crowd the path that matters is WEB-INF/classes/crowd.properties, and it holds plaintext credentials. Rapid7 chained it to jira-administrators. Advisory Oct 5. watchTowr published details Oct 6. Honeypots caught exploitation two hours later. The part teams will get wrong: patching doesn't help with a credential already read. It closes the door without changing the lock. Patch out of cycle, then hunt — URL-decode access logs up to twice, look for .. next to /, \ or ::. Hit on a config file means contain, then rotate Crowd secrets. Sources: Atlassian, watchTowr, Rapid7, BleepingComputer, Oct 5-7 2026. Note: the card image is AI-generated.
