Prove myself, be recognized, or feel like I have to be right. But the Lord reminds me that I do not have to compete for importance. I do not have to make myself greater than someone else to have value. Scripture says, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.” James 4:10 Humility means I can admit when I am wrong without making excuses. It means I can apologize when I hurt someone, listen when I need correction, and accept that I do not know everything. Sometimes God uses other people to reveal something in me that I did not want to see. Instead of becoming defensive, I want to become teachable. I want to ask, “Lord, what are You trying to change in me?” Jesus showed me the greatest example of humility. He had every reason to be exalted, yet He served others, loved people who rejected Him, and willingly laid down His life for sinners like me. If Christ could humble Himself for my sake, then I can let go of my pride, my need to always be right, and my desire to be praised. I also realize that humility is tested when nobody is watching. It is easy to appear humble when people are giving me attention, but true humility is what I do in secret. It is giving God the glory when I succeed, serving someone without needing recognition, forgiving without announcing it, and choosing obedience even when nobody will know. I don’t want pride to separate me from the presence of God. I want to remain teachable, grateful, and willing to be corrected. Whatever gifts, opportunities, strength, or blessings I have are not reasons to look down on others. They are reasons to thank God and use what He has given me to serve Him and bless people around me. I will not let pride become greater than my love for God. I will humble myself before the Lord, remain teachable, give Him the glory, and remember that everything good in my life is ultimately a gift from Him.
