what the government should have done was ban financial institutions from charging CC fees but then all they would do is raise the interest rate they charge to compensate but also small business can do the exact same thing if they dont want to absorb the CC fee

i work at a small cafe and they had to pay like $15,000 for merchant fees just for one quarter its ridiculous

Why doesn’t everyone start paying cash. Simple easy. Cash is king. Get customers paying cash. I went to eat out. Sign out front read cash only. No problem. No price increase to the customer. We need to move as one to make changes. Small business can do this if they work as one.

If the ato absorbs the fees thats the tax payer paying the fee and you would still complain. Only about 5% of payments are paid by credit card.

Small business can do the same thing and just not allow the payments. It’s not like the ATO has options that the small businesses don’t. The ATO also can’t increase their prices by 1% to cover the cost like small businesses can..

i think the ATO is a unique case. A business can raise prices to cover it, but the ATO cant raise taxes to cover it.
