I honestly agree with you because books are undoubtedly one of the greatest sources of knowledge, but so are conversations, experiences, history, art, films, different cultures, and even the mistakes we make. You can read hundreds of books and still lack the ability to understand perspectives outside your own just as someone who rarely reads can possess a profound understanding of human nature simply because they’ve paid attention to the world around them. To me, being well read is less about accumulating information and more about developing the ability to think critically, question what you believe, recognise the complexity of other people’s experiences and remain open to ideas that challenge your own

being well read means being competent and nuanced enough to analyze ideas with a great deal of open-mindedness, intellect, and the humility to acknowledge you won't always be the smartest person in the room because you read a lot; in knowing that knowledge is an ever growing thing.

I like a combination of reading things that may challenge me like literary fiction and classics; but also things I enjoy like sci fi, speculative fiction, dystopian fiction, horror, politics, neuroscience, religions, history, biographies, anthropology, etc

Well said! This actually reminds me of Professor Jiang’s theory about the false dialectic of communism and how it ultimately clears the path for capitalism. Anyway, I loved this take 👏🏽

I took an “into to visual culture” class in college and it made me understand that everything is a meme but in a really sick cultural reference way and now I’m thinking about if adam smith had access to TikTok comment gifs
