@karenscatcommunity: PECTUS EXCAVATUM! We seem to be adding more and more sanctuary cats yet getting less and less money. We're sinking and I can't see a way out. Today has been hell. We knew Blue might have a very mild case of pectus excavatum, and today’s X-rays confirmed it. She was spayed today, too, and thankfully her condition is very mild. But we haven't even begun to process what we've been told about Sasha. That's a story for tomorrow, because tonight we're exhausted, aching and honestly struggling to take it all in. Please, if you can, support our JustGiving vet fund. We're still trying to reach £5,000, and we're not even at £3,000 yet. We're already caring for 40 rescue cats and two rescue dogs. We're trying desperately to make our sanctuary sustainable, but every unexpected diagnosis brings more worry, more costs and more pressure. We rescued these kittens from a colony because they deserved a chance. We never imagined we'd be facing this, trying to find suitable homes for cats with additional needs while wondering how on earth we'll manage it all. And poor Sasha… we haven't even got to her story yet. Please help us keep caring for the cats who need us. Thank you #RescueCats #CatRescue #CatSanctuary #HelpRescueCats

Ado's Attic :
Humans live with this without any problems, I actually grew up with someone who had it. I hope that Blue can find a great adopter soon, I know that they can put a plate in to take the pressure off the heart and lungs for future development.

Poor little thing. As you explain Karen.. The bigger picture is the cat crisis, not enough neutering or spaying and all these unhealthy colonies and it’s continually perpetuated by people not doing what they should or dumping kittens 💔💔 you guys are doing more than your part, so much respect from fellow cat lovers in Belfast x x

oh girl had the same diagnosed at 8 weeks old it was severe 2 missing ribs and her heart wasn't in the right placement, so she wasn't a candidate for surgery. sugar had an amazing life for 5 years 🥰 she was ill once !! but towards the end her lung capacity got smaller and in the end we chose for her to go peacefully x we have another one currently with FCKS x

pectus excavatum especially mild is really nothing to worry about,it's only a possible issue if it's serious enough to effect the heart, lungs it's unlikely to have any effect at all or have any impact on lifespan

I'm glad its only a mild case, but I hope it doesn't result in lots of issues later and that people see past it when looking to adopt. I am sorry you're going through it all at the moment, and I just wish we could find them all good homes.
I hope Sasha will be ok. x

Has all of their issues been caused by inbreeding?

All the darling cats that come to you, leave for forever homes, stay with you, or heartbreakingly gain their wings, all are touched with your and Lauren's love.
You pick up the pieces that aren't yours to pick up and therefore any upset or anger or heartbreak gets put on you both too.
Sending you both some extra love, extra strength and a big hug for these difficult times and always xx
