@borntoserve07: You can deeply love someone and still grieve the life you both use to have. You can be grateful they're here and still feel exhausted both can be true. Nobody tells you that grief can move in before the goodbye. You're still cooking for them, still fixing their blanket, still answering the same question for the fifth time — and somewhere in the middle of it, your heart starts mourning. That doesn't make you cold. It makes you human. After 17 years of caregiving, I can tell you: this is one of the quietest pains in this work. I've watched families smile at the door and fall apart in the parking lot. I've done it myself — kept a strong face all day, then sat in the dark at night wondering why I felt nothing at all.
