@thehotmesshomestead: When can you move chicks outdoors? How do you acclimate them to your adult birds? The general role of thumb is between 6 to 8 weeks old when the chicks are feathered out. However, if you live in a warm climate, you should be able to put them out a little bit sooner depending on your low temperatures at night. A chick starts out needing to be at 95° and you lower it 5° each week until you reach the natural temperatures outside or they are fully feathered. The easiest way to transition them outside is to have their own chicken coop, but obviously not everybody is able to do this. If I didn't have a grout coop, I would keep them in a very large dog kennel inside of the predator proof run or inside the coop. I would leave them in that for at least a week and then I would allow them out while supervised to make sure that the flock doesn't start attacking them. You could gradually do this until the flock accepts them or you could just open it and yeet them out and make sure that they are good to go. That's my go to method lol!
