@grandfather898: In March 2012, a photo of 61-year-old Ting Tsu-chi carrying his elderly mother in a cloth sling at Chi Mei Medical Center in Tainan, Taiwan, touched people around the world. The unusual but loving moment quickly went viral. The photograph was shared more than 26,000 times online and was also published by newspapers as far away as Singapore. For many people, the picture showed the deep love and care Ting had for his mother. Ting was a retired investigator who had worked for Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice. Former colleagues knew him as a man who was deeply devoted to his parents. Throughout his career, he made important choices to stay close to them. Ting repeatedly turned down promotions when they would have required him to move away from his parents. Instead of choosing a higher position, he once voluntarily stepped down to a lower-ranking post so he could continue living and working nearby. His devotion became even clearer after his father passed away in 2007. Following his father’s demise, Ting decided to retire early. One reason was that he wanted to fulfill his mother’s wish to visit relatives in mainland China. Years later, the photograph of Ting carrying his elderly mother at the medical center became a powerful image of a son caring for his parent. The photo may have shown only a simple moment, but behind it was a lifetime of choices. Ting had repeatedly put his parents before career opportunities, showing that for him, family was more important than promotions or professional success.
