@absurdlyexact: Put Jupiter where the Moon is and it fills 21 degrees of sky, 41 times wider than the Moon. A full Jupiter reflects about 7,000 times as much light, so midnight is brighter than an office. From above, Earth becomes Jupiter's moon. It goes round every 37 hours, closer in than Io, and passes through Jupiter's shadow on every lap: a total eclipse of up to 2 hours 9 minutes, every 37 hours. Jupiter's tidal pull is 25,840 times the Moon's. All of that needs Earth moving at 18 km/s. A straight swap leaves the two with the Moon's 1 km/s, and Earth falls in. We worked the fall out with Kepler's equation and checked it step by step: 6 hours 15 minutes 55 seconds, hitting the cloud tops at 51 km/s. Sky angles and the views from space are to scale. The tidal bulge is exaggerated 100 times.
