@axconworld: 🚨 NEW YORK’S “MARKET OF SWEETHEARTS” BECOMES A MAJOR FLASHPOINT IN GOVERNOR’S RACE Republican New York gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman is promising a major crackdown on crime and disorder along Roosevelt Avenue in Queens, an area that has become notorious for reported prostitution, drug activity, shoplifting and other illegal activity. Speaking Wednesday, Blakeman blamed Gov. Kathy Hochul and progressive lawmakers, arguing that New York’s bail-reform and “Raise the Age” policies have made it harder for police and courts to keep repeat offenders off the streets. He also accused criminal networks, including Tren de Aragua, MS-13 and Triad-linked groups, of exploiting the area. Blakeman, currently Nassau County’s executive, says residents should not have to fear walking through their own neighborhood at night. His campaign has made public safety, policing and immigration enforcement central issues as he challenges Hochul in the November 2026 gubernatorial election. But the political fight is far from one-sided. Democrats have attacked Blakeman’s own public-safety record in Nassau County, pointing to police staffing and crime figures. State data show Nassau recorded 2,294 violent-index crimes in 2024, the highest annual figure from 2015–2024, although overall index crime fell substantially from 2022 to 2024. The race is therefore shaping up as a broader debate over crime, policing, immigration, bail reform and the direction of New York. 📍 The bigger question: Can Blakeman turn frustration over public safety in New York City into enough votes to defeat Hochul?
