The NO FAKES Act, which was re-introduced in Congress earlier this year during GRAMMYs on the Hill, will establish a framework to protect an individual’s name, voice, image and likeness from being used without their consent. Help protect artists, creators, and all individuals and urge your Senators and Representative to support the NO FAKES Act! Protect Free Expression & Support the Restoring Artistic Protection Act! Ask your Member of Congress to protect creative expression and co-sponsor H.R. 4678, the Restoring Artistic Protection Act today! This important legislation will protect artists from having their creative expression used against them as evidence in court. The use of creative expression, specifically rap lyrics, in criminal proceedings has been a longstanding issue. To date, there are over 800 documented cases of creative works being used as evidence against artists. In these cases, lyrics are often presented as a literal confession rather than artistic works. If left unchecked, this practice will have a chilling effect on all forms of artistic expression. The Restoring Artistic Protection Act will limit the use of creative expression as evidence in federal court and help protect artists and creators from unfair bias. Support Fair Pay for Music Creators The bipartisan, bicameral American Music Fairness Act (AMFA) would establish a performance right for sound recordings broadcast on AM/FM radio in the United States. AMFA closes the century-long loophole that has enabled Big Radio to earn billions of dollars without compensating American artists a single penny, while also protecting truly local and community broadcasters. The bill also has special protections that ensure songwriter royalties are unaffected by the establishment of the new right. Tell Congress to support the American Music Fairness Act (H.R. 861/S. 326) and end the injustice that has denied American artists the right to earn royalties from AM/FM radio.
