1. Women are told we can “have it all”… as long as nobody is inconvenienced by it. Have the career. Raise the kids. Keep the house running. Look after yourself. Be present. Don’t complain. 2. Working mums are expected to do two full-time jobs. Working dads don’t carry the same expectations. That doesn’t mean dads don’t help. It means when the school calls, when daycare rings, when someone’s forgotten their hat, or Book Week is tomorrow… most people still expect Mum to sort it. 3. No one notices everything a mum does… until she stops doing it. The appointments. The permission slips. The birthday presents. The school emails. The lunch boxes. Then suddenly… everyone notices. 4. Motherhood shouldn’t be where ambition goes to die. I want the career. I want the business. I want the family. I don’t believe women should have to choose. 5. Women are expected to become mums without becoming someone new. Like becoming a mum shouldn’t change us. I think it should. I’m not the same woman I was before kids… and I don’t want to be. 6. I don’t want my old self back. She got me here. But the woman I’m becoming is stronger. More confident. More ambitious. Why would I want to go backwards? 7. Women have been doing it for centuries. Giving birth. Raising kids. Running households. So I guess we’re just expected to keep doing it all… right?
