When I delivered my daughter at a dignity/common spirit hospital I noticed all the women of color were on duty for night shift and all the white women were on day shift. Could have been coincidence but definitely was noticeable. Night shift were wayyy more attentive and caring.

I did night shift inpatient for 10 years loved the money and vibes then suddenly it demolished my mental health couldn’t get out of bed on my days off. I had to get an outpatient day shift or I was going to snap.

I think ND folks already have some shifted or delayed circadian rhythms, which makes it a little more natural. Like historically, I BET, we absolutely were the villagers taking night shift stoking the fires and keeping the village safe while they slept. Some theorize ADHD neuro type evolved for these specific survival reasons.

I feel like my kid will excel at night shift work. She has delayed sleep syndrome so she is awake during the night and can easily sleep during the day. She is also neurodivergent and her sleep specialist told her when she grows up and goes to post secondary education to choose later day classes and a job that allows later wake times.

My mom worked nights in the icu and loved that there weren’t scheduled procedures and docs running around making her life harder. And always the vibes! Her coworkers were the best

Working a partial night shift (until 10pm and weekends) was so hard with my ex. We could never go away or out at weekends with friends, it’s was so crappy for us

I was a single mom when I was a CNA & I worked midnites 10pm-6am so I could be the one to care for my kids, I love that you mentioned that aspect. I agree 100% with you on all those reasons! Love your family-and garden!

I’ve had both my babies spontaneous labor and nighttime deliveries and my nurses were great. Somehow I manage to get there around midnight and have a baby by 4am. I wish I was a third shift L&D nurse!
