After years of spending time in Italy, and now actually living here, there are things I once thought were a bit odd that now make COMPLETE sense. 1️⃣ Going for a walk with nowhere to go The passeggiata isn’t about getting your steps in. You walk, you talk, you see people, you get out of the house. No destination required. I love it. 2️⃣ Talking about food while you’re eating food You can be halfway through lunch and already discussing what you’re having for dinner. 😂 But I’ve realised food here isn’t just fuel. It’s culture, pleasure, family, connection. 3️⃣ Getting dressed properly for completely ordinary things Living in Rome has humbled me on this one. 😂 Women look incredible just going about their day. There’s something lovely about making an effort simply because it makes you feel good. I’m still regularly the sweaty one in activewear though. ❤️ Follow me for the things you only discover when Italy stops being a holiday and becomes home, and send this to someone who loves Italy as much as you do. 4️⃣ Protecting mealtimes I was used to eating quickly because I had something more “important” to do. Here, stopping for lunch isn’t seen as wasting time. I’m increasingly convinced we got this one wrong. 5️⃣ Living outside Coffee outside. Dinner outside. Walking in the evening. Sitting in a piazza talking. You don’t need to organise an “outdoor activity”. Outside is simply where a lot of life happens. 6️⃣ Turning a tiny interaction into a conversation You go somewhere to complete a two-minute errand and somehow you’re still talking ten minutes later. The efficiency-obsessed part of me used to find this frustrating. Now I realise these little interactions are how you become part of a neighbourhood. 7️⃣ Socialising without everything revolving around alcohol Coffee. Gelato. Dinner. A walk. Sitting somewhere talking for hours. The occasion doesn’t need alcohol to make it one. And I REALLY appreciate that. The longer I live in Italy, the less I ask “why do they do it like that?” And the more I find myself thinking… “Actually, they might have a point.” 🇮🇹 Which Italian habit have YOU adopted? 👇 #lifeinitaly #livinginitaly #italianlife #italianlifestyle #movingtoitaly
