Some of Los Angeles’ best stories are buried six feet underground… And this spooky season, we’re going to dig a little deeper. 🔍 🪦🌴👻 We’re launching our NEW LA Explained Historic Cemetery Walking Tours, exploring three of the most fascinating, beautiful + occasionally VERY strange places in Los Angeles history: Hollywood Forever, Forest Lawn in Glendale + Evergreen Cemetery in Boyle Heights. Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned about LA, it’s that the stories don’t end when the people do. Behind those cemetery gates are generations of Hollywood legends, artists, pioneers, immigrants, architects, politicians, scandalous characters + everyday Angelenos whose lives helped shape the city we know today. And some of their stories are absolutely WILD. 🪦 HOLLYWOOD FOREVER CEMETERY Few places capture the mythology of Old Hollywood quite like Hollywood Forever. But there’s SO much more here than famous names. Elaborate mausoleums, Egyptian Revival architecture, beautiful monuments, forgotten Hollywood scandals + stories about the people who built the movie industry before Hollywood was even Hollywood. 🌲 FOREST LAWN MEMORIAL PARK, GLENDALE Part cemetery, part art museum, part architectural wonderland. Forest Lawn transformed the very idea of what an American cemetery could look like, replacing traditional graveyard imagery with landscaped gardens, churches, sculptures, stained glass + elaborate reproductions of European art and architecture. It’s also the final resting place of Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor, Walt Disney and countless other figures from Hollywood history. And the history behind the place itself is just as fascinating as the people buried there. 🏛️ EVERGREEN CEMETERY, BOYLE HEIGHTS Established in 1877, Evergreen is one of Los Angeles’ oldest cemeteries and one of the most extraordinary places to explore the city’s multicultural history. Here you’ll find the graves of early Los Angeles pioneers, politicians, community leaders + generations of Chinese, Japanese, Mexican American and other Angelenos whose stories are deeply woven into the city’s past. It’s a remarkable window into the communities that built LA, including people whose contributions rarely make it into the usual history books. And THAT is what these tours are really about. Not just famous graves or spooky stories, but the architecture, symbolism, history, memory + extraordinary lives hiding behind names carved into stone. We’ll explore beautiful grounds, examine historic monuments, uncover forgotten stories + discover how these places reflect the changing city around them. And yes, there will be plenty of strange, scandalous + occasionally downright spooky Los Angeles history along the way. 👀👻 📸 Ditra Flame at Valentino’s crypt, Hollywood Forever, August 23, 1953. If you love Old Hollywood, spooky things to do in LA, Los Angeles cemetery tours, Halloween activities, historic architecture, hidden Los Angeles, famous graves + forgotten LA history, SAVE THIS ONE. 🪦❤️ Which cemetery are you exploring first? 👀 #ThingsToDoInLA #LosAngelesHistory #SpookySeason #CemeteryTours #HiddenLosAngeles
