ARMED HOSTAGE STANDOFF AT POLOKWANE COMPLEX ENDS WITH ARREST POLOKWANE — An armed standoff at the Monet Townhouse complex on General De La Rey Street in Polokwane ended with the arrest of a man who allegedly held his mother hostage on Sunday, 11 October 2026. According to reports by Polokwane Review, the incident disrupted the normally quiet complex after a man allegedly threatened residents and discharged a firearm, prompting an emergency response from police and local security personnel. Residents reportedly sought cover as the situation unfolded, with some initially mistaking the sound of gunfire for firecrackers before realising the seriousness of the incident. Police officers, community policing forum (CPF) members and tactical security personnel responded to the scene. Negotiations were reportedly conducted from behind a boundary wall as officers attempted to persuade the armed suspect to surrender. The standoff lasted almost an hour, according to eyewitness accounts published by Polokwane Review. As the operation continued, a police Nyala armoured vehicle arrived at the complex. Tactical officers appeared to prepare to enter the property while efforts to resolve the situation continued. A drone was also reportedly used to help establish the suspect’s whereabouts. The breakthrough came when witnesses noticed the garage door opening. Officers subsequently moved in, and the suspect was apprehended. The woman who had reportedly been trapped inside the home was able to leave safely. No injuries were reported in the available accounts. However, the circumstances that led to the incident remain unclear. Authorities had not publicly confirmed the precise motive, the charges the suspect may face or details of his expected court appearance at the time of reporting. The community policing forum reportedly declined to comment while it gathered information ahead of the suspect’s court appearance. VM News will provide further updates as additional verified information becomes available. 💬 What are your thoughts on the response by police and local security teams in bringing this tense situation to an end? #VMNews #Polokwane #LimpopoNews #CrimeNews #HostageSituation
