@josbokhoven: my potty training tips as a full time nanny who potty trained my nanny toddler in 3 days! 1. go around the house and “throw away” all the diapers. DO NOT go back to diapers during the process when the child is awake. it only confuses the kid so make sure you’re 100% ready before you start (we still use diapers/pull ups for nap and bedtime) 2. stay home for 3-5+ days, go commando, and provide lots of liquids so that they have to pee more often and you can work on going to the potty. 3. when an accident happens, scoop the child up mid pee and run to the potty- “uh oh, pee goes in the potty!” 4. use phrases like “let me know when you have to go potty”, “tell me if you have to go potty”, “remember, pee goes in the potty” rather than questions because it offers them a subtle reminder without giving them the chance to say no! 5. do not shame them for an accident but also don’t tell them that it’s okay. it’s not okay to go potty on the floor. gently remind them that pee goes in the potty, not on the floor. 6. use some sort of reward system (stickers, a treat, etc) i used the book “potty training in 3 days” and HIGHLY recommend! #nanny #nannylife #pottytrain #tips #potty

currently potty training my nanny toddler (parents said they wanted to start) & he does fantastic during the week, but then they put a diaper on during the weekends and all of our progress gets lost. it’s so frustrating! so unsure of how to handle the conversation about it with them :/

My baby/toddler is 13 months and I’ve started to sit her on the potty and read books about the potty. She loves reading so she likes it. But curious if going fulll commando is appropriate now/will she understand and be able to do this. She’s also recently learned how to take off her diaper. Any advice would be great 👍

Stay home sounds extremely when I work over 14h a day. If we don’t leave the house we will get crazy

What worked for my nanny toddler is getting pairs of his favorite characters undies. (Ex: spider-man) I told him “spider-man dosent like being pooped or peed on, let’s keep him clean” and he had a few accident but immediately regretted making spider-man sad. It worked in 3-4 days.

Yes! She’s 21 months I’ve been reading her potty training books since she was 18 months and she’s starting to understand what pee and poop means so I’ll start when she’s 24M

Also, don’t use padded underwear! Kiddos will pee in them because they feel like a diaper.

3 is a solid advice as a nanny who has potty trained little, another advice is to time when they typically go after drinking - also be observant of their signs before they will go (this may be hard) , another advice is after 3 when you get some pee in the potty after hovering them over it CELEBRATE WITH THEM, make noise, clap hands, look happy, get them excited and proud of themselves. Eventually they will make the association that it goes in there.

Heavy on the DO NOT GO BACK TO DIAPERS. Because with my 2nd family it was hard. Parents would slap on a diaper when I wasn’t there or if they didn’t feel like dealing with the mess. So really I was the only one working on the potty training. Mom even told me how they were at the park and little man told her I HAVE TO GO POTTY but she said, oh that’s ok you have a diaper on, just pee 😑 but then complained that it was taking too long for him to learn. So eventually i confronted her and said look if you want him potty trained asap. Stop with the diapers because going back and forth is confusing him. They stopped and he immediately got better. 1st family, they were on the same page as me and I promise those kids were potty trained in less than a week. Oldest even went alone after getting the hang of it.

Heavy on number 1. During the day no accidents. At night and weekends they were having so many accidents. They then decided they didn't want to potty anymore. Parents were doing diapers on the weekends and at night because it was "easier."

I have potty trained no less than 20 toddlers using this exact method. All before the age of 3, and many by age 2.

my nanny mom keeps messing up my training… he’s been interested since 2.5, he’s almost 3.5 now…. He’s been peeing mostly in the toilet. He had a couple days in April where I got him to poop on it and once recently but the moment he feels that feeling he runs to get a diaper 🫤 so frustrated
