@emilylyoness1: Meet “Martha.” Martha has very high standards, very strong opinions, and occasionally needs a little help distinguishing between the two. And, I adore her. Now, I know some people will watch this and ask why I didn’t immediately drop her as a client. Here’s why. If I only worked with people who already had perfectly healthy perspectives on dating, I wouldn’t be doing much coaching. Part of my job is helping people recognize the things that might be standing between them and the relationship they say they want. Sometimes (usually) that means having uncomfortable conversations. Sometimes it means challenging a double standard. And sometimes it means explaining why a man worth $12 million shouldn’t automatically lose to one worth $80 million. 😂 I don’t think wanting financial security or a certain lifestyle makes someone a bad person. But I do think it’s worth examining whether we’re asking for qualities in a partner that we’re not prepared to offer in return. And here’s something I believe very strongly: You don’t have to agree with someone’s thinking to believe they’re capable of changing it. Martha needs some extra coaching, patience and support. She’s also willing to have these conversations, even when they’re uncomfortable. And that’s why I haven’t given up on her. We’re getting there. ❤️
