@a_mothers_cry: A 13-year-old boy in Shreveport, Louisiana, lost his life while trying to protect his little sister during a shooting that also injured two other children. According to police, the shooting happened near the basketball court at the Olde Salem Village Apartments on Buncombe Road. Three juveniles, ages 2, 13, and 17, were struck by gunfire. Sha’Michael Russell was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later died. His family said he had been playing outside with his 3-year-old sister when gunfire erupted, and he placed himself between her and the bullets in an attempt to protect her. Thankfully, his little sister was not injured. A 2-year-old child and a 17-year-old were also shot and taken for medical treatment. Investigators later confirmed that the 17-year-old was the intended target and that Sha’Michael and the 2-year-old were caught in the crossfire. Police have arrested two 19-year-old cousins, Javieon Abbott and Alonzo Abbott, in connection with the shooting. Javieon Abbott was charged with second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. Alonzo Abbott faces charges as a principal in the murder and attempted murders. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, and additional arrests or charges may follow. Sha’Michael’s family remembers him as a loving, caring boy who enjoyed sports, gospel music, helping others, and spending time with his younger sister. His aunt, Jessica Haley, who serves as a chaplain with the Shreveport Police Department, described him as a hero for trying to shield his sister from the gunfire. The community has since gathered to honor Sha’Michael and support his grieving family. His final act has left a lasting impression on those who knew him and on people across the country who have heard his story. At just 13 years old, Sha’Michael should have had so much more life ahead of him. Instead, his family is left grieving a young boy whose final moments were spent trying to protect someone he loved.
