@jeannettesoutharddwyer: Here's a season mark most of us never think to write down: the last mosquito bite of the year. Once the evenings stay below about fifty degrees, mosquitoes turn sluggish and mostly quit biting. A hard freeze, a couple of hours down in the twenties, wipes out most of the ones still flying. A few just hide out in the shed or the basement till spring. So sometime in the next few weeks, depending on where you live, there'll be one last bite, and then a long, quiet stretch of evenings on the porch with nothing to swat. Note the date when you notice it. It's a fine one to set beside your first frost.
