@sarahalonzo817: Sometimes, you have to come across a bit harsh to make people realize that disrespect and foolishness won't be accepted. You've tried the soft way. You explained yourself calmly. You gave warnings, second chances, and "I'm just saying" hints that went right over their heads. And all it taught them was that you'd keep taking it. Your politeness got mistaken for permission. So now you say it plain, and suddenly you're "rude." Suddenly you've "changed." Funny how nobody called the disrespect rude when it was aimed at you. They only noticed bad manners the moment the boundary showed up. Here's the truth. A firm no isn't cruelty. A flat tone isn't hatred. Cutting off the jokes at your expense isn't bitterness. It's the first time they're meeting the real limit, and some people only understand a limit when it makes them uncomfortable. You were never obligated to wrap every boundary in a bow. People who respect you will adjust. People who only liked you when you were easy to walk over will call you difficult and leave. Let them. That's not a loss. That's the filter working. Being kind was never the problem. Being kind to people who treated it like weakness was. You don't owe anyone a softer version of your boundaries.
