The book and its sequel make it clear that there are real ghosts and demons in the hotel. But Jack is an addict at the edge of his sanity so the audience never quite knows what's actually really happening.

Stephen Kings “The Shining” is so interesting to read bc if you read the book, the wife Wendy is a badass but Stanley Kubrick was so dick hard about having Jack Nicholson he made Shelly Duvall have PTSD

The previous scene is where this all takes place and is much creepier. Jack says “God, I'd give anything for a drink. I'd give my goddamned soul for just a glass of beer.". While rubbing his eyes and face. Immediately after, he looks up and Llyod the bartender is standing there, with a slightly menacing grin on his face. Almost like “Speak of the devil and he shall appear “. The shining is one of my favorite horror movies of all time. I’ve seen it 100 times. It’s a different kind of psychological horror.

I love when Gen Z suddenly tries to describe the brilliance of the Shining (from our era genx, baby boomer).

In the novel, the hotel itself feeds off of psychic energy (the Shine). the stronger the person's power, the more the hotel can feed, making the hotel stronger. It manipulates then possesses the father in order to ☠️the kid in order to feed off of the kid's powers. At the end, Jack resists long enough for his kid and wife to run away before the Hotel's boilers explode, destroying the hotel

At the end of the movie they pan to a pic from 1921 & Jack is in the pic front & center. Implying he was reincarnated & the present caretaker in the first part of the movie says to Jack “you’ve always been the caretaker”
