@mountainfacts: The Snow Leopard Award is the most interesting mountaineering award you've never heard of. Awarded by the Soviet Union starting in 1967, the Snow Leopard Award was given to mountaineers who successfully climbed all five peaks in the USSR that rose above 7,000 m. And although the Soviet Union hasn't existed in nearly four decades, the Snow Leopard Award still exists and is awarded to mountaineers who conquer all five peaks. #learnhistoryontiktok #geography #mountaineering #History

I once met an older gentleman nicknamed Pamir, in the hospital when I got my arm broken snowboarding. He was absolute inspiration and had completed more than one 7 thousanders. I didn’t know this award existed but it sure looks like he had been part of it one way or another. (Hence the nickname I suppose.) He lived a fulfilling life it seemed, he passed just after I got released, may he rest in peace.🫡🏔️✊
